Understand your options

Let’s find you a way forward

Facing bills, debts or struggling to access credit or housing in Canada? You have rights and options. Understanding your financial position can help you explore support and find a way forward.

1. About you
2. What would you like help with?
3. Tell us about your bills or debts

Estimates are fine. Leave unknown amounts blank. Do not include full account numbers, banking passwords or your Social Insurance Number.

4. Your Smartie report and monthly capacity

Smartie helps you understand your financial position, what you can realistically afford and the options that may be available to you.

Smartie uses a secure bank connection to give you a clear review of your income and spending. Your report shows your monthly disposable income (MDI)—what is left after the expenses included in the assessment—to help you avoid an unaffordable repayment plan. Once you complete Smartie, your report can be used again and again, reducing the need to repeat an income and expenditure exercise. Your information may need refreshing if your circumstances change or a provider needs an updated report.

The Smartie assessment is free to use and does not impact your credit score. You choose whether to share your report.

Start with your financial position

We will send you a Smartie link so you can see your financial position and understand what you can realistically afford.

We will review your enquiry and contact you about access to Smartie.

Is there anything we should know to support you?

Are you going through anything that makes it harder to manage your finances or deal with this situation? You can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with.

You do not need to share medical details or a diagnosis.

We’ll ask for your permission before contacting anyone on your behalf. Any payment plan or settlement must be agreed with the creditor.
